Calculator Use

The graphing scientificand multi-function computers are permitted or are allowed for certain Practice (r) tests. Unless specifically stipulated that a calculator is allowed to be used for a particular test however, calculators cannot be employed.

Test takers are not allowed to use calculators with others.

Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator

In general, unless explicitly stated that a certain kind of calculator is allowed or required to pass a particular test, calculators are not allowed to be used on every practice test.

Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator

It is possible to use a 4-function or scientific calculator to pass taking the Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, but you're not required to do so. You will need to bring your personal calculator to the testing centre. It is not allowed on the day of the exam. A graphing calculator is not allowed for this test.

Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted

The following are not permitted to be used on Praxis Praxis

  • Laptops or portable computers that can be carried around
  • Electronic writing pads
  • Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
  • Calculators on any phones or watches as well as other electronic devices
  • Models that include QWERTY along with other alphabetic keys as part of either software or hardware
  • Models with printers
  • Models that create noise or "talk"
  • Modells which require an electrical outlet
  • Models that can access the internet OR have Bluetooth (r) or wireless Bluetooth (r) capability.
  • Models with cameras with scanning capabilities, the capability to record/play digital audio or video

In addition, the use of any hardware peripheral is not allowed.

Tests That Provide an On-screen Calculator

Calculators from test takers' own calculators aren't allowed on Praxis assessments that have calculators with on-screen displays.

On-Screen Scientific Calculator

These practice tests use an onscreen scientific calculator. The tests are based on an TI-30XS MultiView(tm) calculator. A tutorial is provided so you can try out the calculator's on-screen interface prior to test day.
